The Vía de la Plata is one of the most singular Roman infrastructures on the Peninsula. It was constructed to unite the important cities of Emérita Augusta (Mérida) with Astúrica Augusta (Astorga). It provided passage between the cities, in addition to an exchange of cultures and customs. It was used by the first pilgrims from the south on the Road to Santiago.
Fortunately, a large part of it is still conserved today. |
